Keyguard

University of Alberta Student Accessibility and Accomodations

What is the Keyguard?

The keyguard is a tool that sits on top of a keyboard where each key has its own designated hole. It is designed to prevent keys other than the intended key from being pressed.

Every keyboard has its own unique design, meaning that every keyboard will need a keyguard designed specifically for its shape.

How to Use the Keyguard?

1. Make sure your keyguard is built for your specific keyboard

2. Align the keyguard holes with your keyboard's keys

3. Start typing!

Tactile Maps

What are Tactile Maps?

Tactile maps are specialized maps that use textures, raised objects, and Braille to help visually impaired people build a mental model of a space. Raised objects with raised lettering informs people of where certain things are located.

These tactile maps are layouts of the washrooms in Adaptabilities' Millbourne Mall office.

How to Use a Tactile Map?

Tactile maps are utilized using the sense of touch to feel for raised objects on the map. These raised objects could be walls, key locations or objects, or labels.
